DIGITAL CHAIN is a short, mystery visual novel about 3 kids who explore a haunted school.

The game focuses on a supposed 'Haunted School' and an Incident that occurred there in the past. With your two friends, Shuhei and Hiromi, explore the Haunted School. Online there were claims of a ghost summoning ritual that allows you to speak with the dead using only your cellphones. They called this ritual, The Digital Chain.

By using Key Words that you learn through dialogue, you move the story along at your own pace. These Key Words can be Names, Locations, and other sorts of things that you gather through Dialogue. Presenting a Key Word to the group represents starting your own coversation with that Key Word as the subject. One Key Word can lead to the next, creating a chain of messages that push the story along.

The game is a bit experimental. Any feedback on things like the primary gameplay loop or the writing would be very helpful going forward.

Gameplay/Features:

  • Player driven story. Uses "Key Words" to progress the game's Plot.
  • 2 Endings
  • Around 1 hour playtime
  • 640x480 :)

Ending Theme, “Ghosts Weep Too” by Ty Armstrong (@tys_fgc)

I really enjoyed this. Good length, tension, atmosphere, sound, humor, likeable and diverse characters - the writing flows nicely too! Took me a bit to figure out the keywords system (see it highlighted here tho so I shoulda paid more attention to that xP). I actually want to see the other ending! Couple sentences get cut off like the volleyball flyer but otherwise very polished!

I was looking through my text to find where this happened, but I'm thinking it must happen in the End, where you review all of the Objects you chose. I definitely missed that! (Was an oversight not testing that line using every Item Combination)

Going to fix that up, thanks for playing!
